NATO Reach is a sovereign, cloud managed workplace and device modernisation programme that equips NATO personnel across strategic command centres with secure mobility and multi classification laptops (≈5,000 devices) capable of seamless access to different security domains on a single endpoint. Delivered by Proximus NXT together with Thales, NATO Reach operates as the first operational building block within NATO’s broader digital backbone initiative, combining secure connectivity, managed devices and multi domain cloud capabilities into one coherent, in house managed service model.

NATO Reach had to be delivered without operational disruption across environments handling highly sensitive, multi classification information, where even minor downtime can affect military readiness and strategic command functions. The programme integrates secure mobility, cloud managed devices and multi domain security while scaling across multiple NATO sites, capabilities highlighted in the strategic programme announcement, raising the bar for design, accreditation and operational excellence.
Beyond technology, the project had to comply from day one with stringent NATO security obligations for classified information: access only for cleared personnel, strict “need to know” dissemination, auditable processes, and mandatory breach reporting, operational realities that materially elevate risk and governance requirements for any supplier inside NATO per contract general provisions. The delivery therefore depended on tight tri party coordination (NATO, Thales, Proximus NXT), progressive validation, device certification and multi country logistics, all aligned with NATO’s evolving cloud and security roadmaps surfaced in NATO’s cloud forums.
Executing the first operational building block under these constraints, while maintaining service continuity and security posture, demonstrates execution maturity commensurate with a transformation of this criticality and scale.

Proximus NXT’s selection as NATO’s supplier is underpinned by a rare combination of strengths: sovereign operations, extensive experience in secure public-sector ICT, large-scale multi-vendor integration capabilities, and an established record of credibility within NATO environments. Proximus NXT brings years of federal and defence sector delivery heritage, validated internally by the nomination of NATO Reach as a strategic award candidate within Proximus NXT’s governance cycle. This continuity is reflected in the teams themselves: the same experts remain engaged across bid, build and run, ensuring accountability, domain knowledge and flawless execution.
Operational excellence is anchored in a highly certified, Belgium based SOC, providing NATO with sovereign, 24/7 monitoring, incident response and secure service oversight, fundamental for handling classified workloads. The sovereign footprint, combined with NATO aligned security standards, is a key differentiator that very few ICT suppliers in Belgium can offer.
As part of NATO’s broader digital backbone programme, Proximus NXT has been entrusted, together with Thales, to deliver secure mobility, multi classification laptop fleets, cloud infrastructures and high assurance connectivity across strategic NATO sites. This trust at the highest security tier demonstrates both the strategic relevance and the operational credibility of Proximus NXT.
Bringing together sovereign operations, multi vendor orchestration, mission critical delivery experience and deep alignment with NATO’s security posture, Proximus NXT is uniquely equipped to deliver a transformation of this strategic importance. This combination of capabilities makes it not only a strong supplier, but NATO’s trusted partner for the next decade of digital evolution.
Beschrijf de originaliteit en/of innovatieve kracht van/in dit security-project
NATO Reach is innovative because it delivers multi classification security on a single managed device fleet at NATO scale, an uncommon capability in defence environments, paired with a sovereign, cloud managed workplace and mobility service delivered in house by Thales and Proximus NXT. What elevates its originality is the delivery model: workplace as a service and device as a service combined into an operational foundation for NATO’s digital backbone, not a point solution. It combines endpoint, identity, connectivity, and cloud-readiness with built-in security and sovereign operations, aligning with NATO’s cloud and security approach where Proximus NXT participates in specific initiatives at NATO HQ. The result is a repeatable blueprint for secure, multi classification workplaces across NATO sites that accelerates time to value while reducing rollout risk.

Proximus NXT is uniquely positioned to deliver NATO Reach thanks to its combination of sovereign operations, defence grade ICT expertise, and a long standing trust relationship with NATO. NATO’s confidence is evidenced by its decision, together with Thales, to award Proximus NXT a major strategic contract to help build NATO’s new digital backbone, covering ultra secure cloud infrastructures, secure mobility and multi domain laptop fleets that support NATO’s most critical command environments. This is one of the most sensitive ICT contracts in Europe, placing Proximus NXT among a very select group of partners trusted to operate inside NATO’s highest security domains.
Across delivery, Proximus NXT brings a uniquely powerful mix of capabilities:
• Sovereign Belgian infrastructure ensuring full compliance, data residency and operational control
• Defence grade security expertise aligned with NATO’s strict access and accreditation requirements
• Multi vendor integration excellence through the trusted Thales–Proximus partnership
• A proven track record in sensitive, security critical ICT environments
• End to end delivery capability spanning workplace, mobility, cloud, and secure connectivity
No other supplier in Belgium combines this level of proximity, sovereign capability and mission critical delivery experience within NATO environments. This makes Proximus NXT more than a supplier, it makes it a strategic, sovereign and trusted partner shaping NATO’s digital future.
